FCBBS World Series Game 1
Tough one for us on Saturday night. Kershaw didn't have his best stuff and the Dodgers couldn't get anything going against Hendrickson so we drop to -6,351.5 units on the postseason. Some people might be miffed by that number but the (young and inexperienced) Cubs are now in uncharted waters. Not a single person alive today was alive the last time the Cubs played in the World Series so this is truly historic - and will also be a historic letdown for Chicago when Chief Yahoo and his tribe of savages led by Cody Kluber scalp the Cubs in 4, maybe 5 games. Needless to say, we LOVE our spot here and are prepared to FIRE.
Speaking of Cody Kluber, he'll be on the bump for the Indians tonight on double rest. This injury-ravaged club has overcome insurmountable odds to make it this far, and now with the opportunity to rest for weeks and scout the Cubs, they are ready to rock and roll. In the meantime, the Cubs have been partying like they've already won the damn thing (guess what...they haven't). In the postgame interview, Cubs manager John Madden said he was looking forward to watching football this past weekend. Seriously, dude? I know you used to coach the Raiders but you sort of have another series to prep for. While Madden was watching football and the Cubs players were drinking and smoking their asses off, the Indians studied game film and practiced playing baseball, just further increasing their already intense focus for this series. Tony Francona is going manage circles around grass-smoking, football watching, dirty hippie John Madden. I expect a Cleveland clinic put forth in the dugout and on the playing field.
Tonight, the Cubs once again trot out the old miracle worker John Lester. Even I admit Lester has been pretty damn good this postseason, but like I've said before, he isn't getting any younger and eventually Father Time will start to kick-in. There are only so many times in a row you can have a good outing and Lester is way overdue for a bad one. The bad outing happens TONIGHT.
The Dodgers decided to not steal bases against Lester because that series was rigged for the Cubs to win (I have sources deep inside the media-industrial complex that confirm this fact). However, this series isn't rigged so they can drag out the curse for one more season, thus you can expect fair play. The key for Cleveland will be their ability to cause major porblems on the basepaths early on. If Hayes can focus on making contact instead of swinging for the fences, he'll be able to go first to third with no issues against David Russ. And if you're Lester and the Cubs, you do NOT want to face Cerrano with guys on base. Finally, if the Indians lead late, they will hand the ball to Vaughn, who is lights out when he can locate the terminator.
Great spot here tonight as we get plus-odds on the Indians. Our model has this about Indians -155.
Indians (Kluber) +105 (Cantor/South Point) Risking 7,000 units to win 7,350 units
